I have done this a couple times and all I can tell you is ensure you read 
the directions thoroughly and follow them to the T, especially where it says 
to ensure the area you are working on is clean, dry and free of petroleum 
products (if it is a dry kit). If it is the one you can use while the tank 
is still full (for slower leaks) then just follow the instructions on the 
packing.

I have done this also but only after I gave it a good college try since 
usually there is a waiting period for shop repairs and I rather not wait if 
I don't have to.
