> Can anyone tell us which countries got back seat 3-point belts? > I don't know any that required them by '73, although Sweden was probably hottest on safety matters, but I'm glad to say none of my passengers have required them so far, even though they generally use them as it's the law! I think the UK rule for fitting was from the mid-eighties; our 82 Polo had them as standard, but they were certainly not fitted to every car then. When I put inertia reel belts in the front of mine, I used the front three-point static belts in the rear, and used a short inertia reel Type 3 lap strap. Before that we had child belts in the back on the previous Variant (actually made the day after the one we have now). As photo 3 shows at http://www.hallvw.clara.co.uk/family.htm , the mounting points do come in handy. The belts must have stopped a fair bit of punching, pinching and general misbehaviour with big brother sitting between the younger two! Dave.
