While this is completely true for 68-9, his car is later, a 71 IIRC, 
and pushing down on the throttle will pulse 2 of the injectors open a 
few times. This will spray in some fuel, and may exhaust some air if 
the lines happen to have air in them.

I've never found it useful for starting my cars, but I can see how it 
might be.
