On the shark-nosed models look on the flat panel just inside the lip 
of the front trunk, to your left of the latch.

On round nosed models, and Type 3 Ghias look to the inside of the 
tire well on your left (car's right side).

It's a small aluminum plate a little bigger than a business card with 
two rivets holding it to the panel.

and if your REALLY lucky, you might find a sticker that has your 
paint code next to the plate or on the panel between the gas tank and 
the spare tire.

If your unlucky, both will be painted over by a poor paintjob.  :(

At least the VIN tag is embossed and stamped so you can still read it 
if it got painted.
