A lot depends on what the problem actually is. It may just be that the head studs have pulled out of the case. If this is true, the case can be salvaged by installing "case savers" which are steel threaded inserts which make this weak spot in the case design more than strong enough. I recommend that you buy the Bentley manual for most of what you need and the Haynes to cover the early 6V electric and the carbs.
