[T3] new to the list

<x-flowed>I am new here. My name is Mike and I have just put a down payment on a 64 squareback 1500s. The pan is rusty but not bad. The engine has a crack in the case due to poor rebuild and over torking the bolts. Finally the interior needs redoing. My questions are : 1) What color were the original panels as I would like to order new ones. 2) How difficult is it to rebuild the engine with a used or new case and using the rebuild parts fron this engine. Keep in mind I would like to attempt to keep serial numbers matching. Oh yah Everett when I get off my butt I will send a donation to you as it was your site that got it for me.
Further introduction. I have been looking about a year for a type 2 and no luck. I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and it is so hard to find any Volkswagens for sale here. Anyone that has them keeps them. So I have now decided to jump ship from type 2 for a while and get this 64 in order and will keep looking in the mean time. I have never restored or rebuilt a vehicle and I am a mechanic but not auto, I am refigeration/air conditioning mechanic. I love any Volkswagens in the air cooled pre 70 era. I have been looking mostly pre 67 van but when I saw this car and the accepted my offer it just snow balled from there. I don't have the vehicle home yet and expect to see it mid October. If anyone has any advice it would be gretly appreciated.

Thanks
mike
