Old fluid won't make your brakes squishy, but it does tend to promote corrosion in the cylinders which can cause all sorts of problems. DoT-5 silicone brake fluid avoids most of these problems, but it is quite a bit of work to install it correctly and it's expensive. In my opinion, it's well worth it. I've used DoT-5 exclusively in all my VWs since 1978 and I'd never go back. I'm sending you my silicone FAQ. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
