I ran across another 70 fastback that this was done to. Someone had "replaced" 
the return line, that's the one on the right side, with some copper tubing and 
hose. A friend of mine drove it like that for a couple of years as we slowly 
got the car fixed up and running nicely. Eventually we went after that "fix" 
and just connected the OE line back up. It turned out to be just fine. We never 
could figure out why the PO had changed it.

For all I know, they didn't know about the overflow hose from the gas filler, 
and assumed the leak was from the return line instead.
