[T3] Do I need a new battery?

This is probably a really stupid question, but here it goes.

I found my battery dead.  I hooked it up to the charger and after 6
hours it was still drawing 7 amps.  Is it shot?

Another question.  I seem to need to replace batteries every 2-3
years.  I buy cheapos.  Do the expensive ones last any longer?
