That was me -- I found similar connectors on several '80s watercooled VWs, but they don't seem to be part of the injection on those cars. I saw one on a vacuum sensor on the distributor hose, and then I found another one on the brake resevoir sensor (which is part of the cap on my wife's '89 Cabriolet).
