That's the VIN for my "new" 1970 Variant L.

Other than the rust, I need to do a brake job on this car, it has a couple of broken brake lines in the rear, so I guess i'm putting in new copper lines all around. New rubber hoses would be nice as well.

I didn't think anyone used copper for brake lines but, to my surprise, a web search turned up lots of examples. It has good corrosion resistance, but it work hardens and cracks. There IS a copper-nickel alloy called Kunifer that's being promoted for brake lines, though. Is that what you mean?

Yes, copper-nickel would be it. I only wrote copper because I didnt remember the nickel part. ;)

Nice looking car, but it comes up on my monitor looking blue.... Are those the spare parts you got with it? There's some nice stuff there. ;-)

That is pretty much all the parts I got with it, not bad considering that the parts I had laying around before I bought this consisted of a few lights and carbs.

I was surprised at a couple of things here. No popout windows. I expected to see them on a 70.

Popout windows are rare in Europe.

No pockets in the door panels, and don't the inside door handles look small?

This puzzled me as well (the pockets), the handles are small but obviously stock.

The interior vinyl panels look like what I think of as the very early (cheap?) style, with the little buttons that show

The buttons are screw head covers, I have these in my 73 as well.

and no wrap-around vinyl, but the carpet looks like the nice stuff.

The carpet is worn and faded, what do you mean with "wrap-around vinyl"?

The antenna hole plug is still there; funny, I've not seen one of those in over a decade, and now this is about the 4th I've seen in the last 3 months....

There are no signs of a radio ever being installed in this car, and thus, the antenna hole plug is still there.

Are those orange straps for aftermarket 3-point rear belts?

They are for toddler seats. They will go in the garbage bin pretty soon!

1) Does any of you know the exact lengths of the brake lines all over the car? Are they included in the microfiche? The modern electronic catalogue does not include the lengths for such an old car.

I think they are all there. I use a somewhat longer length when I'm replacing the long center brake line because I can never seem to get the stock length to fit (and the size that's commonly sold these days is even shorter.) I'll look for these tonight. Does your LF hard line loop around UNDER the MC? (Does your MC have a port that angles down and right from the front circuit?) if so, this is the later, replacement MC and needs a longer length tube.

I will look into this the coming weekend, as I have had no time yet.

Do your calipers have two hoses going to them.

Same answer as before, I will look into this the coming weekend.

There's some brake feature that was a Sweden-only M-code that I've never been able to figure out what it was. It may have been special dual circuit calipers. Do you know where this car was first sold?

This car was first sold in Norway. The brake feature you mention was 72-73 only, they used the 4-pot calipers for added braking power. I have a picture of this caliper, I can send it to you if you're interested.

All in all, I am not sure about the trim level on this car. It does not have an L badge, but it has some of the equipment that is typical of L cars here, such as carpets, clock, Ebersp?cher heater, rubber trim on the bumpers and chrome waist trim, but then again other things that is not typical of an L car such as black cardbord liners in the rear luggage compartment, the headliner is not covering the C and D roof posts and aluminium colored vent windows in the doors.
