Hi Tony,

I am also here in Sydney. I have only had my 71 Notch for less than a year,
so reconditioning of the engine has not been an issue for me, the engine is
still quite strong on mine. I have dealt with VW Village in Kensington, but
I am not sure if they recondition engines. I have also dealt with Vintage
VW supplies in Campsie
http://sydney.citysearch.com.au/E/V/SYDNE/0029/31/78/1.html
they have quite a good selection of parts, they are distributors for West
Coast metrics, TMI and others. They also have a garage where they do a lot
of work for aircooled VWs, I reckon they could recondition your engine.
Look at their site. There is another shop that I think specialises in high
performance VW engines, I don't remember the name though, but I could look
at my bookmarks if you want. I have sometimes seen whole Type3 engines for
sale at the TradingPost and also at the classifieds for:
http://www.clubvw.org.au/
And
http://www.kruizinwagon.com.au/

Good luck.
