I use carb cleaner in a spray can with the nozzle to clean out those sockets, after cleaning out what I can with some sort of pointy tool, like a dental pick. The cleaner they are, the more the tool will bite into the head of the bolt. I always thought of putting a dab of silicone in the hole when finished to keep the dirt out, but never got around to it.
