I suspect it's more random than that; you've just been "lucky." Get someone to 
listen with you to make sure the FP (fuel pump, right?) really isn't running 
and then start checking all the obvious things: fuse, wiring, etc. Get a clip 
lead to "hot wire" the fuel pump while you test, so if you touch the problem 
and it suddenly starts working you'll know where to concentrate your search.
