Usually there is a part # and description stamped on the upper left heat
shield. Mufflers actually sold thru the VW distribution network had a large
(~3" dia) VW logo to the right of where the damper pipe fits in. That space is
often there, but blank, on OEM mufflers not sold thru VW.
