[T3] Engine fixed on the squareback

Well I got new pistons, cylinders and rings to replace my
holey piston . Yeah everyone tells me that what caused the
hole in the piston was a item that fell in or was sucked up.
Maybe the crunching noise I heard weeks ago was inside the
combustion chamber and not in the fan assembly like I thought.
I never mentioned this. Could have been a loose screw or something
that got sucked up, I wonder how it got in there, maybe the
lack of paper filter coupled with high speed engine suction,
something got in . I speculated alot in the last e-mail
but will never know for sure.

Well what is important is that I am driving it again . The
odometer is at 28000 so I can count the miles for this new
upper end that includes the headsd, the heads did not
need replacing but they were mismatched. The bottom end has
around 50000 I guess .

The head temps are a little higher than before on the #3
head area but just a tad bit, I think the new parts and the
different head (bigger valves , not lawnmower size but still
Mexican VW heads). On # 1 head area the temps are colder
than the MOFOCO almost stone cold for these cars , I see
200 degrees F alot maybe after ring seating the temps will
go lower. I do have all of the cooling flaps installed.

The engine idles very slowly in "drive" without missing, I
like that , it has good power for new parts , break in period
for the top end will be until the rings fully seat. I am
very satisfied with this fix but I must make the charging system
reliable.
