Boy Greg, I can sure tell you're not familiar with what passes for 
"merging" here in the north bay.  Most of it seems to be 

A) driving like there's nobody on the onramp trying to get onto the 
freeway, combined with 

B) driving like a bat outta hell up the onramp (and continuing onto
the shoulder) until one can get past the jerks who won't let anyone 
merge into traffic from the onramp.
