Just one possibility: It may have been that something about the synthetic loosened up some junk that was trapped in your oil galleys. Bob Hoover talks about this, and some people recommend drilling out all the galley plugs so they can all be cleaned out. I've only done this once, on a case that had suffered a thrown rod. I wanted to make sure there was nothing in there that would come back to haunt me. I don't know what happened to you. Maybe your oil cooler was clogged, or the oil control valve was stuck.
