It looks like the 043 905 205 would be my better choice, as it would give with both vac and mech advance 32 -37degrees total advance @3900 RPM, which would be less than the 38-42total from the 311L. The 043 looks like its set up very similar to the 311, but with less total advance, and its designed for a carb. Yeah, I realised that the vacuum modulator is wrong for the carbs, but it seems to be very good, nice smooth shifts, both up and down, and at about the specified points in the Bentley. I think one of the POs that had this car really spent some time getting things right for the long haul. Like I told you last year it came with a very strange undercoating on it thats still sticky (even today its still like that). I changed the front brake hoses about a month ago, and the date on the old ones indicated that they were replaced in the early 80s too. It just has a lot of little things like that, that makes me think it was owned at one time by an elderly gent who didn't get rid of things until they were well worn out ( that sounds like myself too : ) ). Thats what surprised me about it having (when I got it) an 009 with a pertronix, as it was out of place for the rest of the car. My thinking is that at one time it was owned by an older gent, driven for about 12-15 years, then given to one of the kids who drove for a while and then sold it, then it was sold 2 more times before I got it, as the guy I got it from never drove it.
