I don't believe there ever was a heat transfer problem. No one out there 
explains what they mean by that and there are only 2 possibilities.

The first is that the specific heat of the synthetics might be low, meaning 
that they could not be used to transport much heat. The specific heats are 
published, I believe, and they are not much different from petroleum oils. Both 
are significantly lower than water.

The second is that synthetics won't give up (or accept) heat to/from other 
objects well, but that is also pretty absurd, since this property is pretty 
much identical for all liquids of a given viscosity.
