Need a bit of advice. I picked up a new stock head for Sophy to replace the 1/2 head that has the receding #2 exhaust valve. It has been adjusted so much that I had to grind the face of the rocker arm a bit to get the 0.006 clearance last weekend.... Anyway, the new head has 54.5cc combustion chambers. The 3/4 head which I reworked 12,000 miles ago has 49 cc combustion chambers. In order to get uniform compression I can obviously rework the 3/4 head to open the combustion chamber up, but I can also just shim one side different than the other. A 0.040 shim on the 3/4 side and a 0.010 shim on the 1/2 side gets my compression ratio for each cylinder within 1% of each other at 7.25 to 1. Any downsides to this easier approach? Thanks in advance.
