it actually isn't spring loaded- it is actually much > more feely than stock- its like you can feel the actual movement of the gear > select detent springs in the gearbox- it kind of clunks easily into place. Good idea for me to try it, but I am unlikely to change as I'm now very used to how the original shifter moves; the only one that beats it in my experience is the '59 Beetle that has a more precise movement. Maybe the Hurst shifter is closer to that, with the addition of the detent feel. I think the 64 1500S Variant we had seemed more sloppy - anyone care to comment? To think the guy who hit my Variant in the rear at a roundabout in Belgium actually suggested I reversed into him! Seems they are going to pay up the modest straightening cost finally though. Dave.
