I don't think you'll ever get them off without destroying the muffler. I 
suggest that you just go ahead and install the muffler and heater boxes and 
then take it to a muffler shop and get them to weld the pipes to the nuts, all 
around. This will seal the leaks and quite the muffler. Eventually, when the 
muffler rusts out, you can cut the pipes, torch the nuts, and then, maybe, get 
them apart.
