Re: no power

Thanks for the input everyone.
In response to Jim and Bob's letters. I am running a 311 905 205 L dizzy, but I also have a 311 905 205 AG, and a 009 which I have on a spare type 1 motor that I built. I would prefer to use one of the T3 distributors because the petronix pick-up I bought is specific to t-3's Both type 3 dizzy's are combination vac and mech advance units. I just ran out and tested both with a vacuum pump and the plate inside the unit moved accordingly. Also as far as advancing mechanically, both seemed to advance slightly with light finger pressure.Which would you recommend I use?In response to Steve in Arizona, your thoughts on the carbs being the problem has cost me more sleep than I care to talk about. When I first installed them on my un-altered motor, I spent many hours adjusting, syncronizing, and trying to find electric choke parts that actually worked. I eventually found chokes off a type 4 motor (bus)with dual carbs that seemed to match up and work. Syncronizing the carbs went well at first, but when I installed them on my re-worked motor, the left carb was not flowing anything at idle. As soon as I would crack the throttle though they flowed evenly. I spent hours resealing the manifolds and what not looking for vacuum leaks, but to no avail. Re-jetting the carbs has definitely crossed my mind, I'm not sure at all though what size jets I have, or what size jets to buy. The carbs I have are from an early type 3, I am not sure of the year as I bought them out of a pile a guy had in an old box. I have a 32pdsit-2, and a 32pdsit-3. They appear to be the same carbs-although opposites of each other-but I'm not sure what the -2 and-3 indicate. I am seriously considering buying a set of webers for my car if I thought they would help my problem. In responce to Phil, you were right I definitely did not cc my engine before assembly, but you can bet your vw I sure will when I reassemble my engine this time.On a side note- I'm not sure of the relevance, when I dismantled my motor I noticed that pistons 1 and 4 h!
ad a normal amount of black carbon on the faces. Pistons 2 and 3 were clean (no carbon). I checked all my rings and only one of the oil rings had the gap on the bottom, and all the piston ring gaps were fairly spaced out. This puzzled me.chris causey69 square
