Hi all, I know there has been discussion of similar topics recently but I think it is best to start a new thread anyway. I took my distributor out for the first time to install an electronic ignition device. It's an Empi Accu-fire unit, which I understand is a knock-off, or possibly a rebadging of the Compu-fire unit. I really only bought it out of curiosity, and because it's much cheaper than the other types of electronic ignition. To the point: My distributor (I now know) is a 311 905 205R. Could someone please let me know which years this is originally for? It seems that the point screw hole in this dizzy is stripped. Also, the shaft has a lot of up-and-down play which seems excessive, I've no idea whether they are supposed to do this. Other than it is a functional unit. The vacuum advance works fine (suck it and see . . .) I also have another distributor, 311 905 205T. Can this be used as a direct replacement? It seems in somewhat better condition than the other one, with much less play. The vacuum advance is OK on this one too. Finally, can anyone on the list rebuild distributors?
