just got some work done on my squareback this weekend...everything went relatively smoothly. replaced the air intake bellows-two clamps on it. these were a little tricky to get on. and the bellows did not have the smoothest appearance, looked like someone left some sand in the mold. got a clamp on the air intake that goes to the oil bath air cleaner...this rubber thing has a crack in it, but i think the clamps helps alleviate that. removed the old engine lid seal, cleaned the engine lid, a little rust prevention on the lid, and at the hinge part. replaced the engine lid seal. I also replaced the fuel overflow hose-this part was a little pricey-but i thought it was worth it,as I would no longer be smelling fuel all the time, and the paint & tire would not get ruined. This was way easier to replace than I thought. cost - $50, but right after I replaced it I saw it for sale somewhere else for $30...oh well next time, actually for $50 there should not have to be a next time... new wiper blades, and rain-x, now I can see wonderfully through my windshield! not too many things, but it felt good to actually accomplish all i intended to. The next day(sunday) I made it to the Hopkinton, NH show. They would not let me in with my squareback-registration was full. THe campground was filled with a lot of nice stuff, but also too many new watercooled vw's...only one squareback, but as I was leaving I saw an amazing 1968 squareback-in near mint condition. The owner claimed to have not restored it-it was all original...but it looked too fresh, I had a tough time believing him, I forgot to check the mileage-as he also claimed that he drove it frequently. it was beautiful though...made me miss my '67. the lines on the earlier are just nicer. these shows always help give me a little incentive to get more done.... -kevin somerville, ma '65 kombi '71 sqbk ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
