Once the front end is jacked up put a jack stand at each end of the beam; under the ends of the clamps for the ends of the beam is ideal as it gives the widest stance and also still allows access to the Zerk fittings. > Also, what size and sort of bolts are used to hold down the > generator's retaining strap? There should be a M8 x 1.25 STUD on each side of the generator. The studs should stay in place in the fan housing and you only need to remove the nuts and washers to get the generator out. Note that these nuts do not need to be tight, just snug. It sounds like a PO overtightened them and pulled the studs out of the housing and then repaired it with one of the metal filled epoxys. This should be a good repair, but you should make sure your stud is long enough to reach to the bottom of the hole to let the epoxy get the best grip on it. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
