Quite a few questions are answered in the original text. Makes for a long msg. --- Jim Adney <jadney@vwtype3.org> wrote: > On 26 Jun 2003 at 13:36, jim wrote: > > > > After the car has been started, but before it's fully warmed up, the engine > > tends to buck unevenly and does not have full power (25 mph in 2nd, tops). The ECU is a type 4 E-brain. But, it was like that when I bought the car and ran fine so I left it under the "no broken, don't fix" category. However, I did replace a faulty pressure sensor, both the old and replacement had untampered black caps, but I wonder if the faulty pressure sensor could have been specific to the T4 brain now that I think about it. I have the PS I removed and it's number is 0 280 100 116, which I assume is the Bosch number, there's also an 030 near the vac. hose connection. Was the one I took off also a T3 PS? > > Do you have the 72 intake air distributor? If so, it has ports for both vacuum > advance and retard. Are you using the right one? It has been for the past year, though it was incorrect when I bought the car. Only the adv. hose is connected to the dist. since I have no vacuum retard canister. > > > Dwell 46 degrees (no change in dwell with RPM change) > > Both temp sensors check out with engine cold and warmed up > > Valves set to 0.06" > > TVS goes from 0 to inf. about 20 times when throttle pressed through range of > > motion. I replaced the VR last summmer/fall. The current VR runs above 14V at medium RPMs. > > This is Jim in Chicago, right? Care to drive it up here sometime? It is a tricky problem that does not always surface, though it is becoming more regular. I'll p-mail you about that possibility.
