I'm pretty sure they're close - maybe the diesel includes some of a heavier fraction. Winter temperatures tend to produce waxing of diesel - don't know if kerosene is prone to it as well. The area around a diesel pump is often a bit oily, and the small amount I've saved when changing the fuel filter on the Golf Tdi seems to feel more oily than kerosene (more commonly called paraffin in UK).
