I REALLY prefer the US hose. You can get good quality made here, too, but the
most important difference is the ID.

The German hose is available in 7mm or 7.5mm (if you look hard.) The US hose is
available in 5/16" which is equal to 8mm.

If you try each of these on the standard FI fittings you will discover that
each of them can be made to fit, and each size seals easily, BUT the smaller
German hose has to be stretched A LOT to get it over the fittings. The stress
this puts on the rubber makes them much more prone to early failure than the
5/16" size, so the US made stuff works just as well and actually lasts longer.

Note that this is NOT because it is better hose (I really have no idea which is
better) but simply because the inch sized hose is a better fit. I also caution
people NOT to overtighten hose clamps on their FI hose fittings. Most of these
fittings will not leak even without tightening the clamps, but you need to do
it to get long term reliability. Just tighten them softly. You don't want to
add unnecessary stress to the rubber, causing it to fail early. If you tighten
them enough to start extruding rubber thru the worm gear slots, you've gone WAY
too far.
