I didn't jack the front end up, but from what I can see in that
limited space, the steering knuckles, torsion arms, just about everything looks fine, except both buffers on the right side are gone, and only the upper one--and in horrible condition--is on the left side, although I believe I remember these being like this since I got it, and I don't see how it would have anything to do with my problem anyhow. The only thing I could see that was unusual was that the torsion arms were at an odd angle, sort of mirrored from where they should be so that the right side's are at about 10o'clock or 9:30, and the left side at 2o'clock or 2:30. From what I know they should be more at 8 and 4, respectively. Beyond that, the portion of the torsion arm that goes into the front axle beam for the lower right arm, is sticking out and exposed maybe 2"--would this be the result of a massive negative camber? Could I possibly fix this by adjusting the camber normally, or would such a drastic change mean something controlling the camber has been busted or bent? Another
thing that may be useful to know is that whenever I had jacked up the
front end--since the damage had been dealt--the body lifts while the
tires remain on the ground until it reaches about the same height that it would have before the incident for the tires to lift off the pavement.
Just some shots in the dark, but could the setscrews or some
bolt/screw have busted, been knocked out, loosened, etc? Could the ball joints be busted/bent/etc?
I'm looking at my Bentley (it arrived today, hurrah!) and I'm
slowly getting the impression that I should just go to it and do a
complete front axle inspection, maintenance, and repair and keep careful note of what I find, figure out if what the towing company did could have caused it, and then charge them for what their actions could have ruined or added to...any suggestions?
Also, some advice. If you ever come to the Las Vegas area
(including North Las Vegas, Henderson, Boulder City, and all the
suburbs), beware of the Ewing Brothers Inc. (they do towing, body work,
and I think some other such things)! They are the LVPDs choice towing
boys, and everyone I have spoken to who has had any experience with them has some complaint from horrible service, damaging their car, and even illegal activities. Just so everyone is aware!
Thanks in advance.
Sincerely,
Christopher J. Valade
