[T3] birals, nickies, squishies, flat tops, dome tops, cast, forged...

<x-flowed>man, after years of stagnant development of VW hp parts, there is a ton of new stuff out there! the list in the subject line i just pistons and cylinders! with these, the development of CNC ported heads with real cooling fins, aluminum cases and modern fuel injection, it seems that 180-190 daily use HP in an air-cooled VW is within reach! ;) that makes me drool!

I have an 'old skool' part question for the experts out there though... what made the NPR pistons and cylinders run cooler than the old forged mahle/cima units? Were the cylinders made of a different material? I know the pistons are heavier but since the NPR 90s were only .50mm smaller than the 90.5s, what else helped them? I know they run cooler because i have had the 90s and the 90.5s in the same longblock with them being the only change. Thanks for any opinions or enlightenments! And remember, "Keep the dirty side down!"
