The square pan is the AT pan. The vacuum modulator screws into the rear there, 
on the PASSENGER side, but it only has a hose attached to it, no wire. There is 
a wire that goes in the top on the driver's side, but that doesn't screw in. 

Some AT 72-3 type 3s had a screw-in pressure switch on the passenger side, but 
that was not on the bottom or the rear and your 70 should not have it.

The marks on a 70 should look like this: |    | | |. The left most mark is TDC 
and is larger than the others. If your marks look like   |    |    |  |, then 
you have a 72-3 engine and TDC is the second mark from the left.

Adjust the rear brakes.

Adjusters can be added to a beetle front end, but not to yours. The type 3 
front end is different. Type 3 front ends can be adjusted, but it requires 
pulling things apart and setting the axle components onto different positions 
of the splines.
