Not sure. It's been a long time since I looked at one from a beetle. I recall 
that the Beetle had a spike protruding from it that located it to a certain 
position via a special hole punched in the bottom of the B pillar for the years 
that got those belts. Earlier beetles either had to drill holes or break off 
the spikes.

I think the brackets were also completely different shapes, due to different 
contours of the floor/wall in that area in the 2 cars.
