Mine was installed improperly and the condensor wire was held taught
against the generator because of it.  One day while I was driving down
the freeway, the insulation wore through and the car died right there
and a few fuses blew.

I did manage to get the DDS (distributor drive shaft) out.  I remember
having some trouble with the washers but not what it was specificaly.

Try a rare earth magnet.  They're really strong.
