Re: [T3] Timing

=> a VW buff ... has rebuilt, supped up, etc.
=> all sorts of VWs, ... Should I trust a word
=> this guy says?

Um ... no.

=> but so far as I was aware ... a Bosch black
=> is a high performance coil, not stock....?

The coil that came with the car originally was black, and these are by far
the most dependable. I haven't seen a black aftermarket Bosch coil. No coil
by itself can *improve* the performance of your car, only bring it up to
proper spec.

=> Could someone tell me what sort of dizzy I've got?

This is for relatively early FI systems -- Jim will have the specifics, but
I expect it's correct for your system. Sounds so far like it's working OK.

=> T0875802

This was originally a dual-carb 1600. It is not original to your car. Not a
problem, necessarily.

=> believe the fan belt is too loose ... Should I tighten it?

If you can only displace it by half an inch, it's plenty tight.

=> hose from the crankcase breather ...
=> should I reconnect this?

If you can, yes.

=> it looks like oil has been leaking out of it

A certain amount of oil vapor normally moves through this tube. When the
tube is connected up, the vapor is consumed in combustion.

=> push-rod tube for the #1 intake has a slight
=> dink in it, do I need to replace this ASAP?

If it's not leaking or distorted to the point that the pushrod is rubbing,
it's not a problem.

=> There is oil dripping, although not a lot, from pretty
=> much the entire engine,
