In most cases the order doesn't matter. Here's what I would do. 1) Adjust the valves. Do this first because it has to be done with the engine cold. 2) Adjust the dwell (points gap) and then the timing, in that order because changing the gap changes the timing. If you have a timing light you should also watch to make sure your mech advance is working. 3) Adjust the idle, carbs, etc. 4) Change the oil. Do this last because it drains out best when it is hot. That way you get more of the dirt out with the oil. AND! Don't forget to grease the front axle. There are 4 grease fittings on each type 3. Grease each of them. You can do this in any order, but do remember that this is best done with the front end jacked up to take the weight off the bearings. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
