Re: [T3] Timing

ChrisV=> Would an MSD Blaster 2 Ignition Coil work?

Yeah, probably. But a stock Bosch black or Bosch blue will work better,
longer and cheaper. More spark than you need will only add heat to your
heads. (I've heard rumors of high-spark equipment burning holes in pistons
as well, but can't confirm.) Sticking with Bosch parts will pay off in
dependability and longevity.

=> I'm sure that the fan belt needs to be
=> tightened as well

Don't worry about it unless you think it's loose enough to be slipping on
the generator pulley. To loosen the generator pulley nut, use two 8"
adjustable wrenches, one on the 'hat', one on the nut. Yup, approach
diagonally, it works.

=> It seems then that my dist was installed
=> incorrectly

This will make proper timing difficult, since the condensor and vac can will
run into the tin. You may find it simpler to turn the distributor into its
proper position and reposition the plug wires as they were in the previous
position.

=> based on what Muir said I believe the gauge
=> I need is different

Bear in mind that Muir was writing almost thirty years ago. It's unlikely
that you're dealing with something special in terms of valve timing today.

=> besides it will give me a better feel for the valves.

That's a good thought.

=> What is starting fluid

Generally unnecessary.
