Hey-hey, just got finished with my brakes. I replaced the center brake line ala Big Al/Toby and switched her over to DOT 5 Silicone as per Jim A. I ended up scrapping the two front calipers (I tried, Jim, I really did, to redo them but they had sat for too long and the pistons was *frozen* big time, *and*) the FLAPS actually had two rebuilt, dual bleeder calipers over the counter for my '73 so I jumped 'em. I replaced the back cylinders, bled it like crazy X 2 with the technique (there really was a lot of crud inside the brake lines) as Jim suggested in his most excellent FAQ for DOT 5, now the brakes is fine. Although all I did was the slow roll down the drive, the brakes do function, not the least bit spongy and I don't anticipate any problems when she finally does get to stopping from driving speed. Next-the dreaded headliner...stay tuned. David Walters '73 1600 L Notchback (now, with improved braking!!) S.
