Well, you're further along than most people who buy a type3. Fortunately, the 
type3 shares many engine parts with a type1, and in a short time you'll get 
very familar with your new car. : )

This is not normal, and it might be a case of either the starter being on its 
last legs, or the starter bushing needing replacement (they very seldom get 
replaced with the starter).
