I'd check the starter bushing and the starter brushes. Both are pretty easy to do while the engine is out. Just replacing the starter would accomplish the same thing, but at much greater expense. You should also check the battery and ground connections. Battery terminals are tapered and often don't get installed all the way down. DON'T hammer them down!
