Later cars will make multiple clicks, but a 69 should only make a single click, just as the throttle comes off idle. None of these clicks can be felt in the pedal; they can only be heard in the engine compartment. In a 69 it is best heard with the engine off. > We're (me and my daughter) not mechanics by any means but we're > willing to give repairs a try -- given explicit directions. Yes, we do have > the Bently manual. Any help from y'all would be appreciated. Get an extra spark plug and then remove one of the spark plugs from its plug. Don't pull on the wire; reach down and squeeze the end of the connector to pull it out. Then connect this wire to your loose plug and lay it down on the engine in a location where the spark plug body is against something metal and you can see the spark plug gap. One of you should then try to start the car while the other one watches the gap. Can you see a spark there? It's just important to verify that you actually have spark before you start to worry about other things. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
