Having thought about this for a few minutes, reminded me of my son swapping
the shifter in the Roadster, we couldn't get 3rd & 4th either, so we put the
other one back in and still no 3rd & 4th, took the 2 bolts out and spun the
plate around and walla, got all 4 forward gears and reverse. Realised the shift
plate was put in 180 out and put the "new" old shifter back in. Just a thought
to try, taking the 2 bolts out and spinning the lower plate around (without
doing anything else), and see if you can now get 3rd or 4th. I hope this helps.

in its construction as it was built from junk parts)-now running on its own
