The first thought is that it's just lack of experience on your part which has led you astray at some point in the directions. The fact that you manage just fine with the other 3 cylinders seems to make this explanation unlikely. Still, I think it would be good to get someone near you to look over your shoulder while you do this, just to make sure, and possibly to provide a different perspective. What order are you adjusting them in? Where do you live? > I had someone turn the engine while I look at it, and it looks normal > just like the other valves. Did you apply pressure to the bottom of the rocker arm, to help open up a gap at the top? > Does this mean my valves are burnt? None of those things would cause this. It's a purely engine mechanical thing, or you're doing something wrong. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
