Dropping the CV joints, unhooking the shift linkage, etc. I have done it that way too, but I have found, that by yourself, it is hard to balance the whole unit. I wasn't shown to do it that way at factory school, but if you are pulling a tranny, that is the way to do it. IMHO, for the person that doesn't do it often, pull the engine by itself, if it is just the engine you are pulling. One thing to remember, is that a lot of people do not have professional floor jacks and transmission jacks to support the engine and tranny as a unit. -- Russ Wolfe '66 FB MT '71 FB AT '65 Bug (not running) russw@classicvw.org http://www.classicvw.org ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
