Unhook the shifter coupling from underneath the car. Tie a piece of wire
or heavy cord to the end ot the rod to help you guide it back in later.
The shifter  bushing holder is fastened to a plate that is bolted to the
top of the tunnel. YOu should be able to replace the bushing without
taking the rod all the way out if you are lucky.
