actually the '71 bus did not have anything supporting the transmission. I don't know if it was an original tranny or not. we did what muir suggested, took a 2x4, and some chains to support the tranny while we pulled the engine...this worked relatively easily... what i have not encountered before is the fact that the rear apron does not appear to come out...that made engine removal real easy in an early bus... -----Original Message----- From: Jim Adney [mailto:jadney@vwtype3.org] Sent: Thursday, July 03, 2003 11:16 AM To: type3@vwtype3.org Subject: Re: [T3] pulling engine/replacing clutch On 3 Jul 2003 at 6:43, Greg Merritt wrote: > At 6:59 AM -0400 7/3/03, Kevin Guarnotta wrote: > > > >I have pulled an engine on a '65 bus and a '71 bus. so I have some > >experience...but the T3 setup w/fuel injection looks quite different. > > Kevin, I'm sure you've caught on to this, but just to be on > the safe side... The 71 bus still has the type 1 engine, so it also has the frame horns that support the rear of the tranny. -- Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
