Well I have just been very kindly offered a new set of linkages from a
fellow listee, so I hope I may have my problem solved- unless of course it
is the balls that are worn out. This list is just great! The quote I had of
13GBP per linkage was from a distributor, but today I had a phone call from
THK themselves who told me that they would be 4-5GBP each- which is much
more like it so I'm very tempted to have a look at some of these. Apparently
they are different from others in that it is actually a ball bearing with a
stud welded to it, then the aluminium body is cast over the steel ball so
the fit is perfect and mirror finished! They are then greased and fitted
with neoprene gaiters. They are used by JCB for the throttle linkage on
their diggers. Only problems are that all the plates would need the existing
balls removed and then drilled to accept the studs, new rods would need
making with L&R threads, and worst of all they aren't designed to be pulled
apart so they would need unscrewing to remove them. I think they would make
a very nice upgrade, a lot of work though. Here's a link to their catalogue

Wow that would make for a very floppy linkage!
