Here is where I have to vent.........................
I know their are people on this FREE list that are also PAYING to be on
the T34 list, and I'm sure this will offend most of you. But ever since
I got out of the registry I've felt like I had to say something.

I used to be a "member" of the Type 3 ghia registry, which by the way
you have to be in order to look at the classifieds.
You might be able to see them, but you can't get contact info. that's
for "members" only. As is the email list. Unlike this one, you have to
pay to get in on that too.

Check the site, you need a username and password.

 What a joke!

The Nazi like rule of Lee Hedges selling you the right to read, learn,
buy, sell, trade and the like says it all.
He'll take all the info on cars, parts, etc. from you and not give you a
dime, but if you want the same in return you need to pay him.

I'll admit there are much nicer cars for sale (none with as much
history) but if you can avoid "the registry" to find one (and you can) I
 would.

Basically all you'll get is someone else telling you what to do with
your car, how much your car is worth, how much better their car(s) are
because they are "correct", how much you should be selling your parts
for, and every once in awhile you'll get some "Type 3 Ghia only"
information, and Lee offering his "services" as the middleman on some
deals for you. Hey Lee, how about just giving me the guys number and
letting me talk to them myself?!?!?

Hey if you want that let me know, and I'll do it for free!!

Stepping off the soapbox and putting it away.

Good for you, Greg! I, too, used to be a member of Type34.org. And I can
vouch for what you say. It usta only cost one about $20/year for a
membership. But one hadda
put up with the dictatorial rule caused by having Lee Hedges at the helm. In
fact, I bought a Type 34 from Lee for what I thought was a good price -
$3,500. The car cost me so much more to restore that I never kept track of
total costs; i.e. i quit counting when the restoration cost got to about
$20,000. Looking back, I learned that
there are more interesting cars out there besides a Type 34. I currently own
two
Type 34's, with no plans for restoring the second one. In effect it is little
more than a parts car. And, it is for sale for $500. I have spent about
$3,000 on it before becoming
discouraged with "all Type 34" ownership, and moved on to other, more
interesting cars (such as Oval windows, split windows, a Hebm?ller, and
certain later model bugs).

I tried, while a member, to suggest a value added formula for car worth based
on how badly the rubber had deteriorated. But, I was shot down at every
turn, mostly by a male secretary who decided he was akin to God. And, what
did I know? I was only paying the bills.

There is a place for the Type 34 registry, but one hasta put up with so much
crap that
it's not worth the $20/year. And, I can tell you first hand not to believe
the prices they are asking for Type 34's. There are about 5 percent of the
Type 34's listed that are really worth the money asked. Those are the best
cars available, and the rest range
from ho-hum to pretty good cars. Lee, for example, spent a lot of money
building a
1962 Type 34 convertible a while back. Then, he promptly wrecked it, and it
is no more. In reading about it, I saw into his restoration a pretty good
convertible accompanied by a whole lot of propaganda about how good it was.
