Plus you end up burning fossil fuel at the power plant unless you have nuclear, hydro or solar. And if you do have a fossil plant, with all the inefficiencies of converting the fuel into kinetic energy, then into electricity, then charging batteries, then back to kinetic energy, you will probably be buring more fuel per mile traveled at the plant than the good old VW four-banger would. Electricity doesn't just majically appear at the electrical outlet.
